Buffalo Pride Gives 3,000 Banned Queer Children’s Books

As Pride Month grows from year to year, there is also an emphasis on family activities to help expand it. More and more queer couples are having children of their own, and more and more queer children want to show their parents what pride is.

In a move that totally warmed our hearts at the June 2 Buffalo Pride event, social media influencers RainbowDads joined UnderTheDeskNews’ V Spehar with help from the Buffalo Bills to march and hand out LGBTQ+ literature banned to children.

A post on Threads by the dads noted that they had spent two months collecting the literature and thanked the Bills for joining them for the march, saying, “That’s what pride is all about!” This is how you support communities! This is how you create change! I am overwhelmed with love, support and emotions today. Thank you all!”

A later video from Spehar talked about the experience in a little more detail, saying they wanted to share the good news that they had joined the dads and the “real Buffalo Bills,” who helped by providing trucks, carts and water.

By the end of the event, they reported having distributed over 3,000 banned books, including “It was the night before prideby Joanna McClintock and Juana Medina; Stella brings her family by Miriam B. Schiffer; Kapaemahu by Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Joe Wilson, Dean Hamer and Daniel Sosa; And Small town pride by Phil Stamper.

They also said that Forge from the Dads did a thorough job of making sure there were books representative of all ages, races and genders to help it be more inclusive overall.

“There really is nothing like Buffalo Pride,” they said before wishing everyone happy Pride.

This is exactly the kind of thing we love to see at events like these. It reminds us all of our individuality no matter what, and it normalizes homosexuality in a family setting. This is vital to our progress as we strive to maintain our right to love ourselves and raise our own families. Having the Buffalo Bills behind them also added to its awesomeness, which is an opinion shared by everyone involved.
