Houston Astros boss once again says they won’t be sellers at trade deadline

The Houston Astros didn’t have the season everyone expected after giving Josh Hader a mega-deal that pushed them to the luxury tax threshold for only the second time since Jim Crane in became the owner.

For most of the winter, they weren’t expected to do much despite being one game shy of their back-to-back World Series appearances.

At the time, this seemed strange given that there were areas they could have improved to help them in their quest for another championship, and ultimately, Crane agreed and gave his front the green light office to add players.

But, 7.5 games out of first place in the AL West and 7.5 games out of third place in the Wild Card entering play on Monday, there is now speculation that they could become sellers near the deadline trades, which is completely unthinkable during spring training.

General manager Dana Brown previously said he didn’t envision a scenario in which that would happen and that he expected the Astros to have a hot stretch where they would find themselves in the playoff mix , but this largely did not happen.

Even with the current situation looking bleak, the Houston boss is adamant he will not sell his assets before the July deadline.

“I don’t see any scenario where we would be sellers. I think we’re going to be buyers,” he said, according to Chandler Rome of Athleticism.

In all honesty, it’s hard to think that this championship-winning group won’t figure things out at some point and go for a run because they have so much talent on their roster. If they don’t want to trade someone like Alex Bregman for future assets before he hits free agency, then it makes sense that they would shop to try to win their third World Series title.

“I’ve seen teams lose their lead by five to seven games in September. In Atlanta, when we won the World Series, we didn’t get to .500 until Game 100. I don’t foresee us being sellers “We will make it happen. I think we’ll be back to .500 before people know it and we’ll be back in contention,” Brown added.

This seems to end speculation that they will sell, but the fact remains that if they fail to position themselves for the playoffs, it seems unwise not to pick up much-needed assets at this point. .

So while Brown doubles down on his previous statement that he won’t trade players, it’s up to this team to put themselves in a position to make the playoffs so this move doesn’t hurt the franchise for years to come .
