Woman hospitalized after three-vehicle crash in northwest Kansas

LOGAN COUNTY – One person was injured in a crash in Logan County just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1993 Dodge Durango driven by Verna M. Wright, 83, of Oakley, traveling north on US 83, just south of US 40. Traffic was stopped because an oversized load carrying a wind turbine blade turned onto US 40.

The Durango struck a 2024 Dodge Hornet driven by Michael Gordon Briese, 68, of Kramer, North Dakota. The impact caused the Hornet to be thrown into a 2012 GMC Denali XL driven by Brooks Kaipo Poaha Tancayo, 22, of Colby, which was subsequently stopped.

Emergency medical services transported a Hornet passenger named Laura Kevel Briese, 58, of Sun Tan Valley, Arizona, to Logan County Hospital. There were no other injuries. All four were properly restrained, according to KHP.
