Arrest after incident with machete

(ROCKY FORD, Colorado) – Rocky Ford Police reported receiving a report of an altercation between two men involving a machete on Friday, May 31.

Police and the Otero County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1500 block of Elm Avenue, near South 15th Street, around 11:30 p.m.

Police Chief McDonagh and Officer Berig arrested the 31-year-old suspect, Jorge Villegos, while Sergeant Pina communicated with those involved in Spanish. According to Rocky Ford Police, they were able to determine what happened to the 61-year-old victim and officially arrested Villegos.

Villegos was transported to a medical center for treatment of injuries discovered when police arrived on scene. He was then taken to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office Jail and charged with menacing, burglary, assault and criminal damage to property.

While police were on scene, they were approached by a woman who claimed there was a warrant out for her arrest for a separate incident. After the warrant was confirmed, the sheriff’s office assisted police and transported her to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office.
