Documenting a year on a transformed Houston ISD campus

KPRC 2 is proud to present the original documentary TAKEOVER, which chronicles a year of change in the Houston Independent School District under the leadership of Superintendent Mike Miles and the New Education System (NES).

Produced by KPRC 2 anchor Candace Burns, photojournalist Wladimir Moquete and digital expert Ninfa Saavedra, the film tells the story of state control through the eyes of Fleming Middle students, parents and teachers School, where our team had exclusive access to classrooms during the year 2023. -School year 2024.

TAKEOVER will premiere in front of a live audience at the DeLUXE Theater in Houston’s Historic Fifth Ward on Thursday at 7 p.m. It will also be broadcast live on the KPRC 2+ livestream.

The screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with members of the Fleming community, as well as the district’s regional superintendent. The discussion is intended to reflect on progress made, acknowledge challenges faced, and explore the path forward as Houston ISD prepares to add more schools to the NES system next year.
