“Ravi:” Atlantic Sun Conference to move headquarters from Atlanta to Jacksonville – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Atlantic Sun Conferencehome of the Jacksonville University Dolphins and the University of North Florida Ospreys, is moving its headquarters to River City.

The announcement was made during a news conference at Jacksonville City Hall Wednesday afternoon. During this same press conference, the creation of the non-profit organization, the Jacksonville Sports Foundationwas also announced.

Visit Jacksonville said in a press release that “the Foundation will also work to increase sports-related efforts in Jacksonville, as the home of one of the fastest growing college athletic conferences, the Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN), which is moving from Atlanta to Jacksonville. »

“I am beyond excited to announce our move to Jacksonville, a market that is experiencing exponential growth in a location that will allow us to access and engage with our student-athletes, coaches and administrators at an unprecedented level,” said the ASUN conference commissioner. » Jeff Bacon said. “As the only NCAA Division I conference headquartered in Florida, we have a unique opportunity to capitalize on the value our members bring to one of the fastest growing states in the country. Thank you to the City of Jacksonville and Visit Jacksonville for their support, and thank you to our Atlantic Sun Conference Presidents for their vision and support of this effort. We look forward to the continued growth of Atlantic Sun and our phenomenal institutions.

Earlier this year, in another sports initiative for the city, Jacksonville was named the new home of the National Primary Track and Field Championships and AAU Club Championships, which were previously held in Orlando. This year’s competition will take place at UNF’s Hodges Stadium July 7-13.

“I have seen first-hand the impact of sports tourism in Jacksonville,” said Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan. “Having an organization dedicated to attracting sporting events to Jacksonville is a game-changer and I can’t wait to see what the Jacksonville Sports Foundation brings here.”
