Buffalo man arraigned in fatal shooting, stabbing victim

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man was arraigned Wednesday morning for allegedly shooting and stabbing two people in separate locations on May 12, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Authorities said that early on the morning of May 12, Emanuel Stokes, 28, allegedly shot Nicholas Calhoun, 34, in the area of ​​Kehr Street and Urban Street in Buffalo. The victim was taken in a private vehicle to ECMC where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said that around 2:25 a.m., Stokes allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old boy at a residence on Mills Street. The victim was taken by ambulance to Oishei Children’s Hospital with an injury to his arm and a cut to his neck. He was released after being treated for his injuries.

Stokes was brought to justice for the following reasons:

  • One count of second degree murder

  • One count of second degree assault

  • One count of endangering the welfare of a child

If convicted of the highest charge, Stokes faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

He is expected to return May 28 for a felony hearing. He was held without bail.
