Pedestrian killed in tractor-trailer crash on I-59 in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A pedestrian on I-59 was killed in a crash in Jefferson County Saturday morning, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports.

Martin Rodriguez-Ramirez, a 29-year-old from Cullman, was fatally injured when he was struck by a tractor-trailer on I-59. The crash occurred about 5:15 a.m. about a mile east of Hueytown. Rodriguez-Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.


After hitting Rodriguez-Ramirez, the tractor-trailer struck the GMC Acadia that Rodriguez-Ramirez was driving, but crashed into a guardrail. A passenger on the Acadia was injured and taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Officers from the ALEA Highway Patrol Division are investigating.
