COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – A man is dead after an altercation with police at a Walmart in east Colorado Springs on the evening of September 3.

No officers were injured in the shooting. A police sergeant said the shooting began with an investigation into a suspicious car outside the store.

“At approximately 10:30 p.m., officers … located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 3200 block of East Platte Avenue,” said Sergeant Alterae Rogers of the Colorado Springs Police Department. “Officers coordinated with (officers working at the store) to identify the occupants of the stolen vehicle.”

According to online court records, a man with the same name and age as Tyler Ben has pleaded guilty to several crimes, including car theft and drug offenses.
