Three people charged after 6-year-old shot in arm following incident in Appling

APPLING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Three people have been arrested after a 6-year-old was shot in the forearm in Appling, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

On September 8, around midnight, officers responded to 5608 Washington Road in reference to the incident.

When officers arrived, 33-year-old Jasmine Curry told them that her three children, ages 2 to 14, were in the back seat of her car and that her 6-year-old had been shot in the right arm.

According to officers, Curry also told them there was cocaine and a gun in the car.

According to the press release, Curry and her boyfriend Calvin Robinson, 32, were arguing in the apartment where a party was taking place before the incident.

Witnesses told officers that Robinson was brandishing a gun and making threats. When witnesses attempted to defuse the situation, the couple decided to leave in their vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, officials said, witnesses said Calvin was waving a gun in the air while firing from the car as it drove down Washington Road.

According to the press release, Ronelle Lazenby, 35, of Hephzibah admitted to firing at the vehicle from the driveway down Washington Road.

Deputies believe the child was hit by one of these bullets.

According to the investigation, Lazenby fired shots from a handgun.

The children were released to a family member and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officials say the child is doing well.

Robinson, Curry and Ronelle Lazenby were all arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office. The charges against them are listed below.

Fees:

Curry: Drunk driving, endangering a child, no insurance, possession of cocaine and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. Her bail is set at $15,700.

Robinsons: aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of Schedule II drugs.

Ronelle Lazenby in the case of serious bodily harm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Both Robinson and Lazenby are being held without bail at the Columbia County Detention Center, according to the inmate roster.
