Meet Chicocurlyhead, who is taking music to the next level from Atlanta to New York

With millions of streams on Apple Music and Spotify, Chicocurlyhead“El pana con flow” leaves its mark on the world of music.

Chico’s musical style has cemented him as an indie alt-pop artist. His recently released EP A never-ending road triphis proudest creation, blends sounds of R&B, alt-pop and hip hop with Latin soul, while the lyrics alternate smoothly between English and Spanish.

His distinctive sound is also distinguished by his desire not to include swear words in his songs.

“I felt like we never needed to swear in our music to get our message across,” Chico said.

What started as an accident when he was just 17 years old quickly turned into a passion for Chico. It was a normal weekend for Chico, where he would hang out with his friends and “see other people who were already making music, making music.” At the time, he wasn’t really interested in music, but when he was asked if he wanted to make a song, he jumped at the chance. So he created a SoundCloud account and by the next day, Chico’s first song had already racked up thousands of streams.

“Once I wrote my first song that day, I thought, ‘Why not, let’s put it online right away,’” Chico said.

Chico is constantly inspired by artists like Post Malone and SAINt JHN. He is drawn to Post Malone’s honesty and emotion, which he conveys through his music. He also feels most inspired by his family, friends, and life itself.

Although it was just the beginning for Chico, one of the major turning points in his career was becoming a father while finding his place in the music world.

This July was a particularly busy month for Chico as he made his television debut on Good Day New York, appeared on New York Public Radio’s WNYC and performed at DROM’s Latin Alternative Music Conference in the East Village where he was honored with the LAMC 2024 Discovery Award, joining past recipients Nathy Peluso, Carla Morrison, Ile, Jesse Baez, Buscabulla and A. Chal.

“I had a great time, honestly, I would say it was an amazing way to start in New York,” he said.

Chico is excited about the path that lies ahead. Before the end of the year, he hopes to release two more songs. As for the future, he hopes to one day win a Grammy and a Latin Grammy, be “number one on Billboard, that’s a must,” go on tour and, most importantly, stay in touch with his fans.

Music has changed Chico’s life positively and he wants to give back by creating songs that also convey positive messages to the world and most importantly, he believes in creating music that can be enjoyed by everyone.

“Music needs to be accessible to everyone and not just a certain group of people all the time,” he said.

One of the greatest rewards for Chico is seeing people enjoy and be inspired by his music, which represents who he is as a person, what he loves and most importantly, where he comes from.

“I like to say that what you see is what you get and I think that’s the case for me,” Chico said. “And I think that’s the case for my EP that just came out, too, A never-ending road tripIt just shows who I am, what I’m about and what I like about my music,” he added.
