Shortly after 7 a.m., Jamestown fire and police were called to a residential building on Fulton Street because a fire had been reported.

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Mayville man is in custody following a structure fire in Jamestown on Sunday.

Jamestown firefighters and police were called to a residence on Fulton Street just after 7 a.m. for a reported fire.

Police officers found a victim with serious injuries from the fire near the house. According to police, the victim jumped from a second-story window to escape the flames.

The person was taken to UPMC Chautauqua Hospital for treatment and later transferred to another hospital for treatment of burns.

Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be arson.

Following an investigation, police have arrested one person. 34-year-old Eric A. Courtier is charged with first-degree arson. He is currently being held without bail.

The victim’s current condition is still unknown.
