A child was among three people killed after an Amtrak train rammed a vehicle in upstate New York near Buffalo. North Tonawanda police said on Facebook that the three people who died were in a Dodge pickup truck around 7:56 p.m. Friday when it collided with the train, which was en route from New York City to the United States at the time of the accident Niagara Falls was.

According to ABC News, North Tonawanda Police Department Captain Daryl Truty said in a released statement that the victims included a six-year-old boy, a 66-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man. The names of the victims were not known as of Sunday morning.

The North Tonawanda firefighters union said in a statement that the pickup truck was severely damaged and heavy equipment was needed to get to the victims, adding that all three victims died at the scene. Photos shared on Facebook by the North Tonawanda Fire Department appeared to show no visible damage to the Amtrak train. The investigation is ongoing and the police did not provide any information about the circumstances of the accident.
