TMC worker arrested for rape in Murshidabad

Berhampore: A Trinamul Congress worker has been arrested by police for allegedly locking up and raping the daughter of a retired government hospital employee at his house in Murshidabad in West Bengal on the pretext of promising her a job in the government service.

Police rescued the victim, in his early twenties, from the house of accused Soujit Roy alias Chhotka in Amtala village in Nowda and arrested him on Sunday morning. Soujit is the husband of Rinki Roy, the former Gram Panchayat Pradhan of the TMC in Nowda.

He had promised the young woman, who is also a neighbor, a temporary job at the Amtala Rural Hospital, where her father used to work, and asked her to come to his home with her resume and certificates.

When the young woman visited his house on Saturday night, Soujit sexually abused her and held her captive throughout the night. The victim’s father said, “When I went to his house to look for my daughter, Chhotka claimed that she had left around 5.30 pm.”

He added, “My daughter somehow called me from an anonymous mobile number and told me everything. Then I rushed to Nowda police station and filed a complaint.” The victim was admitted to Amtala Rural Hospital in critical condition. She was later referred to Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital.
