LBJ Hospital lockdown: Shooter chases truck into emergency depot, prompting rapid closure after crash moments before, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A collision and pursuit between two cars caused LBJ Hospital to be locked down early in the morning, and one man was seriously injured, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident unfolded shortly after 1 a.m., approximately four miles from the hospital on Homestead Road and the 610 intersection.

According to HPD, a silver or gray sedan was struck from behind by a pickup truck driver, who fled the scene, causing the sedan to pursue a pursuit.

The truck driver ended up at a gas station in the 9700 block of Homestead. Police said that’s when family members related to the truck driver arrived and a serious altercation occurred.

In the middle of the fight, someone inside the sedan pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting the truck’s passenger in the head, police said.

It is believed no one in the van returned fire, HPD said.

The truck driver then drove to LBJ’s house, followed again by the sedan.

Police say this caused a commotion in the hospital’s emergency drop-off area, prompting security to place the hospital on a brief lockdown to assess the situation.

The lockdown was lifted at 2:30 a.m., authorities said.

The gunshot victim was transported to another hospital, where his condition appears critical.

Police said the driver of the sedan fled the scene and the car suffered serious rear-end damage.
