Motorcyclist killed near Montrose Saturday – Sioux Falls Live

MONTROSE, SD – One person died in a motorcycle accident near Montrose Saturday afternoon.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, authorities in McCook County were called to the intersection of Valley Road and 249th Street, approximately six miles north of Montrose, for a report of a single-vehicle accident.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol said a 55-year-old man was involved in an accident while riding a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

After the motorcyclist stopped at a stop sign, troopers said he “quickly accelerated” and continued to accelerate. The driver lost control of his motorcycle, overturned several times and threw himself off.

The victim was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident.
