A 15-year-old Iowa high school student was arrested and sent to a juvenile detention center after posting a threat on social media about a school shooting.

On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call about the threat to the Iowa High School on social media at around 6:45 p.m., the CPSO said in a statement. After identifying the student as a suspect, investigators spoke with her.

She was arrested at around 1 a.m. on Friday morning and charged with terrorist attack.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted the CPSO in the investigation. In a statement, the CPSB said the threat was “thoroughly investigated” by the school board and CPSO.

“We want to assure you that this situation has been taken very seriously as we are grateful to our families who reported this post to school personnel and law enforcement. The safety of faculty, staff and students will always be our top priority.”

The CPSB announced that increased police presence on campuses in Iowa will be deployed as a precautionary measure.
