PHIL HOLMES/FOR THE EXPRESS Traffic was reduced to one lane Tuesday morning after an empty three-axle logging truck ran off State Route 220 in Woodward Township, Lycoming County. Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling, Jr. pronounced the driver died of natural causes.

LINDEN – The driver who died Tuesday morning when his empty three-axle logging truck veered off Route 220 and landed in thick brush in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, just south of the Williamsport city limits, has been identified as William Mundy of Avis.

According to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr., investigators have determined that the 61-year-old Clinton County man died of natural causes.

As Mundy was traveling north on Route 220, he suddenly left the highway, went 150 to 200 feet into the undergrowth and struck several trees, Kiessling said.

Township firefighters said the driver had suffered cardiac arrest when they arrived at the scene.

Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The accident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and northbound traffic was closed to one lane for about five hours, according to a state Department of Transportation spokeswoman.

The wreckage, surrounded by thick undergrowth, was not visible from the four-lane highway.

A team of accident reconstructionists was also on site.
