Three people, including two police officers, were hospitalized Sunday following a serious crash in South Los Angeles, authorities said Monday.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department press release, the incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Adams Boulevard and Gramercy Place in LA’s Jefferson Park neighborhood.


According to authorities, patrol officers responded to reports of a man armed with a knife in the area of ​​Adams Boulevard and Saint James Place.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police officers determined that immediate assistance was required and initiated a ‘call for assistance’ to apprehend the armed suspect,” police said.

When a second patrol unit responded to the “call for help,” it collided with the driver in Jefferson Park “with blue lights and sirens on.”

Details of the exact circumstances of the accident were not released, but police said the sole male driver of the car was seriously injured and taken to hospital. His condition was not disclosed.

“The officers involved in the accident also suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released,” the press release said.

Video from the scene showed severe damage to the male driver’s dark-colored four-door sedan, with a dented front end and a shattered windshield. The patrol car also showed damage to the driver’s front end.

The LAPD Multidisciplinary Collision Investigation Team responded to the scene to complete a traffic accident report.
