Ferrari overcomes late drama to hold on to second consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans victory

LE MANS, France (AP) — Ferrari achieved its second straight feat by outlasting Toyota to win the weather-affected 24 Hours of Le Mans on Sunday, with the trio of Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina crossing the finish line in the No. 50 category with 14 seconds ahead of the No. 7 of Nyck de Vries, Kamui Kobayashi and José Maria Lopez.

The #51 Ferrari driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi completes the leading trio in the latest edition of the world’s most iconic sports car race.

Rain and fog brought in the safety car early in the morning, with Ferrari jostling with Toyota and Porsche for first place. But at dawn, the races resumed under the green flag with several teams competing.

With less than six hours to go, the #50 Ferrari stepped in just before more rain fell and Fuoco returned to the grid. Nielsen then survived later drama when a swinging door forced the car into an unscheduled pit stop, but managed to hang on for the win.
