Five-car pile-up leaves one dead in North Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. (WANE) – A five-car pileup on State Road 13 resulted in one death in North Manchester Friday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received multiple calls around 12:45 p.m. Friday regarding a multi-vehicle crash on State Road 13 at the intersection with County Road 1100 North.

Preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that a pickup truck was traveling south on SR 13 and stopped at the intersection where it was about to turn east onto CR 1100. Although the pickup truck was able to turn east and was not involved in the crash, the truck caused a rear-end collision involving five vehicles.

Erica Mabery, who was a passenger in the second car involved in the crash, was seriously injured. Mabery was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. No one else was injured in the crash.

A sixth vehicle was involved in the crash but was westbound on CR 1100 North waiting to turn onto SR 13.

The crash is currently still under investigation.
