Recycling plant fire near East Mount Houston, firefighters hospitalized

HOUSTON – A major fire at a recycling plant in northeast Houston caused clouds of smoke to appear on the roadways.

The Eastex Fire Department reported they were working a fire at Prestige Metal Saturday afternoon in the 7600 block of East Mount Houston, near Suburban Road.

At least two firefighters were taken to the hospital in stable condition for smoke inhalation, the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Residents have been asked to avoid the area as fire trucks will be shuttling back and forth due to no nearby fire hydrants.

Drivers are expected to experience traffic delays for the remainder of the day.
