“I consider myself very lucky,” says Tufton after traffic accident

Health and Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton has said he is “very fortunate” after a road accident which left him hospitalised with injuries on Sunday.

“So this Sunday was not planned! I fell off my bike this morning,” Tufton wrote in an Instagram post early Sunday afternoon.

He posted a photo of himself in bed at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).

The minister is seen with bandages on his forehead and arm as he shakes hands with dancehall artist Valiant.

“I feel very lucky because it could have been worse!! I thank God and everyone who prayed for me and sent me messages,” Tufton said.

“Thanks also to Valiant, who quickly brought me to the UHWI, and to the medical and nursing team who are currently caring for me,” the minister concluded his contribution.

Tufton did not provide any further details about how his bicycle crash occurred or what injuries he sustained in the accident.

Preliminary reports indicated that the minister was struck by a motor vehicle while riding his bicycle in St. Andrew.

Tufton was subsequently taken to UHWI where he is being treated for injuries which are not considered life-threatening.

Meanwhile, several people have sent compassionate messages to the minister on social media.

“Get well soon, @christufton,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

People’s National Party (PNP) Secretary General Dr. Dayton Campbell wrote: “Wishing you a speedy and full recovery @christufton. Be thankful for life!”

On Instagram, the Queen of Dancehall, Spice, commented: “Get well soon.”

Romaine Morris, PNP councillor for the Mocho district in Clarendon, also joined in the statement, saying: “I wish you a speedy recovery… God bless you.”
