This is what Memorial Day looks like

HOUSTON – It’s been hot these last few days in Houston.

This trend is expected to continue next week, including Memorial Day.

Our next rain chances should arrive after Memorial Day next week, but until then, expect more of the same in terms of heat.

This is what it looks like.

First, let’s look at some extremes we experienced on Memorial Day, which is next Monday.

Our hottest Memorial Day on record was in 2004, when Houston reached 96 degrees. Houston is currently projected to tie that record.

The coolest Memorial Day was in 1947, when Houston reached only 60 degrees. Our wettest Memorial Day was in 2015, where Houston recorded 4.34 inches of rain.

As Memorial Day approaches, expect high temperatures to continue to rise, peaking Sunday and Monday in the mid-90s.

Memorial Day in Houston will begin in a warm, 80 degree weather at 8 a.m. These temperatures will rise before peaking at 96 degrees by mid to late afternoon. If we achieve this goal, it will tie the 2004 record and it is possible that we could even break the record.

If you plan to go to Galveston beaches on Memorial Day, expect it to be hot and humid. It will be a few degrees cooler near the water, but still warm. Expect temperatures to reach near 90 degrees, with temperatures feeling above 100 degrees.

After Memorial Day, we will see increasing chances of rain in the second half of next week. Right now, our peak rain chances appear to be on Thursday, where we have a 40 percent chance of rain. These chances will get better as we get closer. Temperatures could drop a few degrees with the chance of rain, but it will still be quite warm.
