Atlanta International Night Market Debuts Two-Night Cultural Experience in Chamblee

CHAMBLEE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Atlanta International Night Market takes place Friday and Saturday evenings in Chamblee.

The event, which brings together more than 100 different cultures and suppliers, began nearly a decade ago with a simple question.

“What are we doing to give back in a unique way that’s not already happening?” » asked Atlanta International Night Market President Jeff Kuo.

The answer: gastronomy and culture in one place.

“You can find a festival for everything,” Kuo said. “It’s the only one where everyone can come together.”

Food and merchandise from around the world will be available outside Chamblee City Hall, including children’s books in Arabic and food from Taiwan, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam.

“Every event we do seems to get bigger,” Kuo said.

This is the first time that Mouna Abdelhamid and the Alif Institute, which promotes Arab culture, have participated in the event.

“The best way to learn something is to have an experience,” Abdelhamid said.

Visitors will find things there that they probably won’t find anywhere else, like an oud, a distant relative of the guitar. The instrument is popular in the Arab world but rarely seen in America.

“It’s not an easy instrument to play, but it’s a beautiful instrument,” Abdelhamid said.

The Atlanta International Night Market won’t cost people a $20 funnel cake, either. Sellers should offer multiple items for $5 or less to promote inclusivity and encourage more people to participate.

“Lectures will only go so far,” Abdelhamid said. “Talking to someone won’t get you far. But an experience will last forever.

“There’s nothing like it right now in Atlanta,” Kuo added. “Then come and see.”
