Book about 5/14 written by victim’s son now in Buffalo schools and parent centers

The son of one of the 10 people killed on May 14, 2022, in Buffalo, wrote a book that was donated to Buffalo Public Schools.

BUFFALO, NY — “5/14: The Day the Devil Came to Buffalo,” written by Mark Talley, tells the raw story of being the son of a shooting victim at a Buffalo supermarket.

Talley’s mother, Geraldine Talley, was 62 when she was killed on May 14, 2022, at the Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo.

“People ask if this book is appropriate for use in the Buffalo public school system? And I’ll give my honest answer. Probably not, but neither is slavery, but you know, we need to talk and discuss evil with the good,” Talley said.

Buffalo’s mayor and school district have purchased books that will be available at four Buffalo Public Schools parent centers. It will be shared with district leaders and board members.

Superintendent Dr. Tonja Williams said “district leadership will be doing a review of the book because it contains information that we need to look at as we grow and see how we can help make events covered in the Book of Moments conducive to teaching our developmentally appropriate children because we have children aged 3 to 18 years old.

Mayor Brown added: “As a community, we do not want to forget. We never want to forget what happened here on 5/14. We want to continue to respect and honor those whose lives were taken We want to send a message to the nation that what happened here on May 14, 2022 must end, must stop. Things like this continue to happen in communities all across our country, urban, suburban and. rural.
