Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson enters Buffalo Bills minicamp on a mission

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Gable Steveson knows what it takes to achieve greatness.

“I won the Olympics in 2020 on a last-second takedown. It’s almost impossible,” Steveson told reporters after the first day of Buffalo Bills minicamp at Orchard Park. “But winning the Olympics is not impossible. In that case you want to be the best you can be and I want to come into a new field and be the best I can be.”

Steveson says he has a mandatory goal heading into camp. He told reporters: “It’s not just about joining a football team. It’s about being successful and being a product that people can watch and be. Hey, this guy has never played in football of his life and he’s done it. Kids are going to look at this and say, wow, I can be something with myself because when I was younger we didn’t have any of these opportunities.”

The 24-year-old wants to promote the idea that you can move from one sport to another, saying: “It’s an incredible thing and I hope people realize it and see that they can do this. what they want from their life.

Steveson, who recently signed a standard three-year rookie contract with the Bills, also says it’s personal. He told reporters: “I don’t want to be that guy who came and just came. Kids are going to watch this and say, wow, there’s a guy named Gable Steveson who’s an Olympic champion, and even though children are, not an Olympic champion, you can do anything in this life, in this world.”
