ATLANTA — The Army Corps of Engineers says it will help conduct an assessment of Atlanta’s entire water system.

A support team arrived Tuesday to help resolve ongoing water main issues, and it’s unclear how long they will be on site.

Channel 2 Action News was the only television station present at the 11th Street water main break site early Tuesday morning when Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens showed up to check on the progress,

“I’m so ready for this to end, as are the people around here,” Dickens said.

Crews worked through the night and day to get water flowing again to parts of downtown.

“Finally, we’re getting it in place, and we’re going to start pressurizing the lines soon and get some flow going,” Dickens said.

It’s this flow that nearby residents, like Robbie Rodriguez, have been waiting for since the major junction of two main water mains ruptured over the weekend, leaving neighbors with little or no water pressure. .

“It’s been very frustrating,” Rodriguez said Channel 2’s Richard Elliot.

“I kind of got hit or miss with water in general,” Rodriguez said. “We didn’t have any water for a few days, and then when we finally got water back, we basically had no water pressure at the moment. It was a bit difficult.

Dickens announced Monday that he would meet with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to discuss Atlanta’s infrastructure problems, but the mayor was not seen for much of the day.

His office said he has been attending meetings on the issue of old pipes.

“It was too old – in the 1930s, 1920s. But now we’re putting in a new one so everyone can have clean drinking water,” Dickens said.

“The Corps is working with the City to explore the viability of conducting a State Planning Assistance Study to conduct a comprehensive physical and operational assessment of the entire water system with the City of Atlanta,” a statement said. the Corps said in a press release Tuesday.

The city said it will be at least Wednesday before water can be fully restored at 11th Street.
