SYRACUSE, NY — Frontier Airlines launched new nonstop flights from

Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) directly to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).

The service is expected to operate three times per week, the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) said in its Friday announcement.

Friday’s inaugural flight departed SYR at 9:50 a.m. and arrived just after noon in ATL.

Travelers leaving Syracuse on the inaugural flight were treated to a celebration at Gate 20. It included decorations, baked goods, gifts and a water cannon salute, SRAA said.

Frontier now operates nonstop flights to five destinations from SYR, including Atlanta, Georgia; Denver, Colo.; Fort Myers and Orlando, Florida; and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.

“We appreciate the Frontier Airlines leadership team who sees the value in expanding its presence here in Syracuse,” Jason Terreri, executive director of SRAA, said in the announcement. “Atlanta is one of the top destinations for SYR travelers and we are excited to increase nonstop connectivity to this key market.”
