Three metro Atlanta congressional elections already scheduled for November

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A week before Georgia’s May 21 general primaries, three metro Atlanta congressional runoffs are already set for the November elections as none of the partisan races have competitors next Tuesday.

In District Four, longtime Democratic Chairman Hank Johnson faces no primary challenger. Neither does Republican Eugene Yu, which means they will meet on November 5, 2024, in a district Johnson has represented since 2007.

Downtown Atlanta’s 5th District is represented by U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams, a Democrat who succeeded the legendary John Lewis in 2020 after his death. Republican John Salvesen is running unopposed in next Tuesday’s GOP primary for a district that covers three-quarters of the city of Atlanta. Williams also serves as chairman of the Democratic Party of Georgia.

In the 7th District in northern metro Atlanta, Republican Rep. Rich McCormick is unopposed; neither does Democrat Bob Christian. Independent candidate Charles King will also face them in November.
