Lynchburg will experience several road closures for maintenance and repairs over the next week

Attention Lynchburg drivers! The Department of Public Works has announced several temporary lane closures, including one as early as Friday.

Poplar Street

  • The temporary lane closure in the area of ​​2200 Poplar Street has been postponed from Thursday, July 25 to Friday, July 26.
  • The closure will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to allow for maintenance work by Columbia Gas.

Wards Road

  • Beginning Saturday, July 27 at 6:00 a.m. and continuing through Sunday, July 28 at 6:00 a.m., weather permitting, the north entrance to the Chick-fil-A at 4003 Wards Road will be closed to accommodate crews performing asphalt work.

Campbell Avenue

  • Beginning Monday, July 29 and continuing through Friday, August 2, there will be a temporary lane closure in the area of ​​3523 Campbell Avenue to allow Verizon to replace a faulty pole.
  • Closing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day and weather permitting.

Atlanta Avenue

On Tuesday, July 30 and Wednesday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, weather permitting, temporary lane closures will be in place at the southbound entrance to Atlanta Avenue near Wards Road to allow crews to repaint Atlanta Avenue. A flagging operation will be in place if necessary.

Closing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both days, weather permitting.

Candlers Mountain Road

  • On Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1, there will be a temporary lane closure in the area of ​​2815 Candlers Mountain Road to allow Verizon to replace a faulty pole.
  • Closing will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both days, weather permitting.

For all closures, a reporting operation will be put in place as needed.

Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through work zones. Emergency vehicles will have access to these areas at all times.
