A mother has been jailed in Australia for being an ‘accomplice’ to her daughter’s rape.
According to media reports, the crime took place in Queensland, where the mother held her daughter down as her partner raped the girl. She has been sentenced to seven years in jail.
The woman had whispered in her daughter’s ear that her partner wished to have sex with her the night before her fifteenth birthday, a court in Queensland heard. The girl had been sleeping in her mother’s bed.
Commenting on the shocking case, Judge Michael Shanahan described the mother’s actions as ‘a substantial breach of trust from a mother to her daughter’, according to News Mail Australia.
The pair traumatized the girl deeply and threatened her to keep quiet about the rape.
The judge told the 36-year-old mother that he ‘did not see a difference between the offenses when it came to holding the girl down or physically raping her.’
The couple were found guilty of two counts of rape each and were sentenced to three years on one count and seven years on the second count to be served concurrently, News Mail Australia reported.
