Suraj Revanna sexual assault case: CID takes over probe, brings JD-S leader to Bengaluru

Bengaluru, June 24 The CID of Karnataka Police, which was entrusted by the state government on Sunday to investigate the sexual assault case of Suraj Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister and JD-S chief HD Deve Gowda, has brought the JD-S MLC from Hassan to Bengaluru.

According to police sources, he will be produced before a special court for MP/MLAs.

Sources also said that Shivakumar, who had filed a complaint against the victim in the case and accused him of extortion, had disappeared.

ADGP, Law and Order, R. Hitendra has directed the Director General of Police, Special Branch of CID and Economic Crimes to initiate further investigation and submit a report after completion.

Suraj Revanna, brother of arrested former JD-S MP Prajwal Revanna, the main accused in the sex video scandal, was arrested in a sexual assault case by the Holenarasipura rural police in Hassan district early on Sunday after he appeared before them on Saturday evening following the filing of an FIR against him in an alleged sexual assault case filed by a woman JD-S worker.

Suraj Revanna, who was charged under sections 377 (unnatural sexual intercourse), 342 (release) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the International Penal Code, said there was a political conspiracy against him.

“The allegations against me are baseless and I strongly deny these allegations. The matter will be resolved legally…” he said.

The victim claimed that he met Suraj Revanna at an event and the JD-S leader allegedly gave him his mobile number and started sending intimate messages containing love symbols.

The man was called to Suraj Revanna’s farmhouse where he was allegedly sexually abused.

Suraj Revanna’s elder brother Prajwal Revanna was arrested in connection with the sex video scandal. His father and JD-S MP HD Revanna was also arrested in a kidnapping case related to the sex video scandal and is out on bail. His mother Bhavani Revanna is under investigation in the kidnapping case and was recently granted conditional bail by a court.

The Karnataka Police have also filed an FIR against two persons for extortion after Suraj Revanna was sexually assaulted, under Sections 384 (extortion) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
