Woman’s 70th birthday turns into a nightmare after she is infested with bed bugs and leaves marks on her hand | Trending

Monica Robertson, an Australian, booked Pacific Encounter with P&O Cruises to celebrate her mother’s 70th birthday. Little did she know she was in for the nightmare of her life. When they boarded the cruise ship, they immediately sensed something was wrong – reportedly an insect infestation.

“In the bathroom, one was literally crawling on me. In bed, I could feel things and I pulled back the sheets and there we saw a whole bunch of bugs in our bed. It was a very, very intense itching, almost a burning sensation. Very hot, then blisters formed. They eventually got to be the size of a 50 cent coin,” Robertson told the New York Post.

She added: “In my walk-in closet, there was a long black dress hanging with about six or seven small bugs on it. I called the stewards who took the samples. When she discovered the situation, she informed staff and asked for a refund, but was denied, the New York Post reported. The little pests forced the family to throw away a large amount of the clothes they had brought with them on vacation.

Robertson said: “We left everything on the lawn. I had to go through everything and decide what we could keep and what had to be thrown away. Most of the stuff couldn’t be washed.”

They also had pest control performed in their home and could not find any infestation.

When Robertson complained to P&O, they stated that a search and cleaning of her rooms had found no evidence of bed bugs. Robertson denied her claim, saying she had “clearly given them bed bugs to look at throughout her stay”.
