Atlanta United will face Indy Eleven in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup

Atlanta United will host Indy Eleven in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, Wednesday night’s draw revealed.

The game will be played at Fifth Third Stadium in Kennesaw on Tuesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. The winner will face FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City in the semifinals. US Soccer also announced that all remaining matches, starting with the quarterfinals, will be streamed live for free on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

Indy Eleven plays in the USL Championship and is led by head coach Sean McAuley. Currently, Indy Eleven sits in fourth place in its conference, four spots below first place Charleston Battery. Atlanta United beat Charleston Battery in the round of 16 on Tuesday, May 21, in a penalty shootout.

Atlanta United will be the first MLS team that Indy Eleven will face in this year’s US Open Cup tournament. The USL Championship team defeated Chicago Fire FC II, San Antonio FC and Detroit City FC to reach the quarterfinals.

The Lamar Hunt US Open Cup is a single-elimination competition that features teams from various American soccer leagues, including MLS and USL. The tournament is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the third oldest open soccer tournament in the world.

Atlanta United’s participation in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup

Atlanta United were crowned champions of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in 2019. Atlanta United beat rival Orlando City 2-0 in the semifinals, then beat Minnesota United 2-1 in the final to win the inaugural Open Cup title of the club’s history.

In 2023, Atlanta United entered the tournament as the defending champions. In 2022, the competition returned after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Atlanta United defeated Chattanooga FC 6-0 in the third round at Fifth Third Stadium. In the round of 16, Atlanta United faced MLS’s Nashville SC, but lost in overtime 3–2 and were eliminated.
