NWS issues dust storm warning for desert southwest

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a dust storm warning Saturday afternoon.

According to the warning, the areas affected include Yuma, Somerton, San Luis and Wellton.

The warning states to be prepared for “a sudden drop in visibility to zero” and urges drivers to “pull over” and “stay alive.”

“If visibility decreases, pull well off the road and put your vehicle in park,” advises the NWS. You should also turn off your lights and take your foot off the brake.

The NWS also recommends that infants, the elderly and people with respiratory illnesses take urgent precautions.

According to the NWS, the warning lasts until 4:45 p.m.
