How Cybersecurity Outage Affects Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A widely used cybersecurity company suffered a massive global outage Friday morning, impacting multiple government departments, hospitals, businesses and more in the Atlanta metro area.

According to CrowdStrike, the issue was triggered by a faulty update and is affecting computers running Microsoft Windows. Businesses, banks, government agencies, and others around the world have reported service impacts, and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded several major airlines.

In a statement, Microsoft said that some Microsoft 365 apps and services have been restored, although issues persist.

“We continue to see increased functionality and availability for the remaining impacted scenarios and are monitoring this closely to ensure we are progressing toward a full recovery,” the company wrote. “Microsoft continues to treat this event with the highest possible priority.”
