1. National Weather Service Confirms 7 Tornadoes in New York

Wednesday was an active day across New York State. About 22 local storm reports were issued across the state and 42 tornado warnings were issued. As of Thursday afternoon, seven tornadoes have been confirmed.

2. Recovery efforts continue as Chautauqua County officials provide tornado update

County officials are urging residents to exercise caution around downed power lines and debris. The Chautauqua County Office of Senior Services is also warning of the possibility of scams by contractors, especially among older residents.

5. Ocasio-Cortez files impeachment proceedings against Justices Thomas and Alito, alleging ethics violations

Making good on a promise made during the recent congressional recess, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has filed articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, charging them both with “high crimes and misdemeanors” for alleged ethical lapses that she says interfere with their duties on the Supreme Court and their oaths to the Constitution.

6. US inflation slows again, which could pave the way for a future interest rate cut by the Fed

U.S. inflation slowed in June for the third straight month, a sign that the worst price rise in four decades is gradually fading and could soon lead to interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

Shelley Duvall, Star of ‘The Shining’ and ‘Nashville,’ Dies at 75

Shelley Duvall, the fearless Texas-born movie star whose wide eyes and seductive presence were a staple of Robert Altman’s films and who starred in Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining,” has died. She was 75.

Duvall died Thursday in her sleep at her home in Blanco, Texas, her longtime partner, Dan Gilroy, said. The cause was complications from diabetes, said her friend, publicist Gary Springer.
