Homeless man’s attack on woman in Beverly Grove “totally unprovoked,” she says

A woman was attacked and injured by a suspected homeless man in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles last month.

As WeHo Online details, the woman posted on social media that she was attacked near the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Crescent Heights Boulevard on June 24 while walking her dog, Bijou.

WeHo Online did not name the victim, but in speaking to KTLA’s Kimberly Cheng, the woman, Sigal Engelberg, decided to go public with her story.

Engelberg was on Melrose Street shortly after 4:30 p.m. that day – “in broad daylight” – when the attacker, whom she describes as a 6-foot-tall black man, approached her from behind and inflicted a black eye and numerous cuts.

A surveillance video from a nearby store shows the man crossing the street diagonally behind Engelberg immediately before the robbery.

She said he fled after hitting her and throwing her to the ground and is still at large.

“He attacked a woman half his size for absolutely no reason,” Engelberg wrote. “I didn’t even look at him. He is crazy and dangerous. I will not rest until he is in prison.”

After she reported the attack, the Los Angeles police “didn’t even come,” she said, so she filed a report at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.

“I’m really worried about how many women he will harm before he gets caught,” Engelberg added.
