Unidentified intruder attacks sleeping Surat couple at home; no theft reported | Ahmedabad News

A couple living with their two daughters in a terraced house in Dindoli in Surat city of Gujarat state were attacked with a chisel by an unidentified person aged about 18 early on Wednesday and fled the scene.

According to Dindoli police, the intruder entered the bedroom where Vijay Modi (44) and his wife Guddi (43) were sleeping at around 4.20 am and attacked the woman. Guddi was injured in the neck and when she screamed for help, he attacked her again with the same weapon.

When he woke up, Vijay tried to overpower the intruder, who then injured him, among other things, on the head and face.

When her daughters, aged 14 and 17, heard the commotion, they woke up in another room and ran to their parents’ bedroom, where they found their father struggling with an intruder. When the younger daughter immediately went out of the house and called for help, the attacker fled the scene.

Other residents of Dreamvilla Society, where the family lives, arrived at the spot and took Vijay to the hospital.

Festive offer

After Vijay filed a complaint against the unknown assailant, Dindoli police registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 118(1), 118(2) (intentionally causing grievous hurt to extort confession or information or to compel return of property, etc.) and 333 (trespass after preparation to do assault, battery or false imprisonment).

Speaking to The Indian Express, police inspector HJ Solank said, “The condition of the Modi couple is stable. We have checked the house and suspect that the accused entered the house from the terrace as it is a terraced house. We also checked the neighbouring terraced houses and found that furniture work was being done there. Our teams are questioning people who were involved in the furniture work.”

The police officer said the attacker knew the rooms in Vijay’s house well and knew how to get in through the roof.

The official further said that over 40 workers are working under Vijay, a dying master of a textile mill in Kadodara village. “We are shocked why the intruder did not commit any theft. There are over 40 terraced houses which have been newly constructed. While 15 houses are occupied by families, construction and furniture work is going on in the remaining houses,” he added.
