DEC assists with incidents in Oneida County – Oneida Dispatch

Rangers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation helped resolve safety issues in Oneida County last week.

On Tuesday, June 11, at 12:37 p.m., while inspecting a campground in Buck Hill State Forest, Forest Ranger Lieutenant Hoag and Ranger Piersma encountered an individual who had an arrest warrant out of the City of New Hartford. The 35-year-old was wanted for grand larceny. Rangers arrested the individual without incident and transported him to the New Hartford Police Department.

On Friday, June 14, at 8:22 a.m., six forest rangers responded to the search for a missing angler near the Black River. New York State Police deployed tracking dogs, aircraft, drones, airboats and road patrols. Boonville Search and Rescue supported ground operations.

At 12:12 p.m., emergency services met a witness who reported seeing the 82-year-old fishing in a tributary of the main river the previous evening. The search teams went to this area.

At 1:08 p.m., NYSP troopers found the dead fisherman on a trail leading from the river back to the road. Rangers transported the suspect on a wheeled stretcher to an ambulance in Boonville. Troopers were out at 3:29 p.m.
