According to the California Highway Patrol, one person was pronounced dead on arrival and four others were taken to the hospital after a traffic crash occurred early Sunday morning at the transition from Highway 14 southbound to Interstate 5 southbound.

“The accident was originally reported at 2:16 a.m.,” said CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig, adding that officers arrived on scene at 2:30 a.m. “Initially, multiple vehicles were reported. I do not have confirmation of how many total were involved. The crossing from southbound 14 to southbound 5 was closed at approximately 2:36 a.m. and the SIGAlert was not lifted until 8:43 a.m.”

The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to the incident, dispatching its vehicle at 2:19 a.m. and arriving at the scene four minutes later.

“I have two serious (injuries), one DOA and two minor (injuries),” said Supervisor Melanie Flores. “The first report was of a single vehicle hitting the median barrier.”
