The Connecticut State Police have announced the line of duty death of Trooper First Class Aaron Pelletier #536 of Troop H-Hartford.

TFC Pelletier was conducting a traffic stop on I-84 East in Southington, just before exit 31, at approximately 2:36 p.m. this afternoon when he was struck by a passing vehicle from the outside of his patrol car, which then left the scene of the accident.

TFC Pelletier suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fleeing driver was located a short time later and is currently in custody.

Governor Ned Lamont has ordered the U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be flown at half-staff, effective immediately, in honor of CSP TFC Pelletier.

Hook & Ladder firefighters will take the flag down from the Main Street flagpole within an hour.

Flags must remain at low altitude until sunset on the as-yet-undetermined day of the funeral.
