Karnataka sex scandal: Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna seeks interim bail | News from India

NEW DELHI: Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna on Wednesday filed an application in the Bengaluru district court seeking interim bail in the sexual assault case.

Prajwal, 33, the grandson of JD(S) patriarch and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and NDA candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, is accused of multiple counts of sexual abuse of women.

Exactly a month after leaving the country, Prajwal released a video on Monday in which he said he intended to appear before the SIT and “cooperate with the investigation.”

“I will personally appear before the SIT on Friday, May 31 at 10 am and will cooperate in the investigation and answer the charges. I have faith in the court and I am confident that I will come out of false charges in court,” he said in the video, claiming that all the charges against him are false. He also said that he wanted to apologise to his family.

In addition, Interpol issued a Blue Corner Notice seeking information on Prajwal’s whereabouts following a request from the SIT through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Prajwal arrested at airport after his return: Karnataka Home Minister

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said on Wednesday that Prajwal would be arrested as soon as he arrived at Bangalore airport.

“All necessary action must be taken as an arrest warrant has been issued against him (Prajwal). He must be arrested. The SIT is waiting, they will arrest him and record his statement and then their (SIT) trial will begin,” Parameshwara said.

“The arrest must take place there (at the airport) because there is an arrest warrant. So he must be arrested,” he added.

Earlier, Parameshwara had said that all necessary steps had been taken in the country to ensure Prajwal’s return, including obtaining an arrest warrant, informing the Home and External Affairs Ministries and issuing a Blue Corner Notice.

“We have made all efforts in the country to bring Prajwal back. We have written to the central government, we have obtained an arrest warrant against him and informed the home and external affairs ministries about it. A Blue Corner Notice has also been issued. In the meantime, he has released a video message about his return,” he said.
