Braves place Ronald Acuña Jr on 10-day injured list, recalls JP Martinez

The Atlanta Braves will be without Ronald Acuña Jr. for the remainder of the 2024 season after an MRI revealed a complete torn ACL in his left knee. Acuña was injured in the first inning of Sunday’s win at Pittsburgh. The Braves placed Acuña on the 10-day injured list Monday and recalled JP Martinez to take his place on the active roster

Acuña got off to a slow start offensively, but his loss will certainly be felt by the Braves. He appeared in 49 games and hit .250/.351/.365 with four home runs and a 109 wRC+ in 222 plate appearances. Acuña also leads the team with 16 stolen bases.

The Braves acquired Martinez in an offseason trade with the Texas Rangers. Martinez appeared in 44 games in Gwinnett and hit .271/.344/.404 with three home runs and a 95 wRC+. He has the ability to play all three outfield spots and brings some speed to the table.
