Boy killed while riding bike in Union County

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A nine-year-old boy is dead after he was hit while riding his bike in Waverly.

Union County Sheriff Jason Thomas states on social media that the boy was struck by a pickup truck at 5:46 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Officials say an initial investigation determined alcohol was not a factor, and it appeared the boy accidentally rode his bike into an intersection and into the path of the oncoming truck, giving the driver little time to react.

Officials also say security camera footage from a nearby home shows the entire incident and will not be distributed for public viewing.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with reliable and relevant information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office directly.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,” officials said. “Please pray for the family of this young person who was taken far too soon.”
