Join us for a conversation between HISD Superintendent Miles and students

Houston Landing invites you to a thoughtful conversation between HISD Superintendent Mike Miles and the students he serves, exploring the trials and triumphs of his first year.

Four HISD high school graduates affected by Superintendent Miles’ policies will speak on stage with the head of the city’s public school system.

This event is designed to educate, entertain and provide people with an experience that inspires understanding, action or insight.

Here are three reasons not to miss it:

1. “This event will be one of the first times Superintendent Miles will have an organic public conversation with Houston ISD students about his controversial changes to the district – bringing accountability and empathy,” according to reporter Asher Leher-Small from Houston Landing HISD, which will facilitate conversation.

“Miles’ overhaul of HISD, Texas’ largest school district, represents one of the most significant educational reforms underway in the country today. Students will share their experiences from this year and Miles will answer their questions in real time. This should be an enlightening conversation.

2. The main idea is that students are the most dependent on these changes. It is therefore important to understand their experiences. But data on their learning achievements likely won’t be released until the fall. In the meantime, Houston Landing seeks to understand and share the student experience with the community.

Miles’ political changes dominated these students’ final years, and the best way to understand an issue is to talk directly to the people affected.

3. Ensure that Houston’s most engaged students and teachers can take action to improve their lives.

Immediately following, the Collaborative for Children, Discover U, and Family to Family Network, among other civic organizations, will host tables where you can learn more about supporting members of the HISD community.
