Arguments in the bail application for a truck driver arrested for rape will resume in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court on Thursday. 16 May.

Prosecutor Khangweleni Mudavhi, who was ready to present his sentencing argument, saw the case postponed for the second time on Wednesday, May 15, due to the defense attorney’s illness.

The defendant appeared briefly in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court on Wednesday, May 8, with his arguments on the bail application delayed due to the unavailability of defense counsel.

He is accused of raping his 10-year-old and 22-year-old daughters. The allegations suggest that the abuse has been going on for years.

The arrest was orchestrated by his wife after their daughter revealed during the March school holidays that she was unable to attend a traditional camp, leading to revelations of the abuse.

His initial bail application on Thursday 25 April followed his arrest on Sunday 21 April. Sergeant Ignatious Mailula, the investigating officer, was cross-examined by both the prosecution and defense on Thursday, May 2, as the case continues with the bail application arguments.

The 10-year-old’s mother believes her husband is a serial rapist. This belief was reinforced when her 22-year-old stepdaughter and a niece described their experiences of abuse.

My husband’s late brother had a daughter who we recently welcomed into the family. He told me that my husband once called to meet her in the Pretoria CBD to discuss family matters which included her welcoming ceremony and to her surprise she was shocked that my husband “I had booked her in a council house “, she said.

The niece, now fearful of revenge, is still willing to help the court with evidence, including CCTV footage from the guesthouse.

The mother is asking the court to reveal her husband’s identity in hopes of encouraging other victims to come forward. Counseling was arranged for all three victims.
