Dagenham man jailed for violent attack and rape of woman who jumped out of window to escape – The Havering Daily

Oladip Oshodi was sentenced to 25 years in prison after attacking, raping, giving a woman a poisonous substance and threatening to kill her in his Dagenham home.

A man has been sentenced to prison for brutally attacking and raping a woman after she managed to escape from his home in Dagenham.

Oladip Oshodi, 48, from Dagenham, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday 5 July where he was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for two counts of rape, administering a harmful substance, threatening to kill, grievous bodily harm and controlling coercive behaviour.

Oshodi was arrested by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s East Area Public Protection Unit on July 12, 2023. He was remanded in custody throughout the proceedings.

On May 10 of this year, he was found guilty on all counts.

On the evening of July 11, 2023, Oshodi made sexual advances to a woman he knew at his home in the Mayesbrook district of Dagenham.

Although the victim made it clear that she did not want to have sex with Oshodi, he raped her twice over the course of that night. He also beat her, but she escaped by jumping out of a ground floor window into the street and collapsing in the middle of the road. Concerned citizens called the police and carried her off the street to safety.

She was taken to hospital for treatment and cared for by specialist staff.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he now serves a long prison sentence in a place where he will not pose a danger to women. I commend the bravery of the victim and witnesses in this case.

“Oshodi has shown no remorse throughout the investigation and trial and I am glad that he must face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer for victims of sexual offences, said: “The survivor in this case was running for her life when she jumped into the road to escape this man. I hope the verdict encourages other women who have been victims of sexual offences to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and support you every step of the way.”
