American Canyon resident arrested for gun possession after traffic stop

(KRON) – An American Canyon resident was arrested for weapons possession following a traffic stop, according to Fairfield police.

At 12:09 a.m. Friday, Fairfield police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 3000 block of Travis Boulevard because the vehicle’s registration had expired. Officers smelled a strong odor of “burnt marijuana” coming from the car. Officers noticed a tied bag of marijuana and loose tobacco packaging inside the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, officers found a loaded handgun. According to Fairfield police, the suspect told officers he purchased the weapon in Vallejo.

The driver was identified as a 22-year-old resident of American Canyon.

The suspect was arrested and booked into the Solano County Jail on several weapons charges, including carrying a loaded firearm.
